The 20th Annual Alexander A. Goldfarb Student Exhibition and Awards
January 30, 2008This year marks the 20th anniversary of the student exhibition named after Hartford Art School trustee and supporter, Alexander Goldfarb. Mr. Goldfarb endowed this exhibition and awards to further the careers of the young artists he had come to know and admire while on the board of the Hartford Art School.
All students of the University of Hartford are invited to submit up to two works of art in any medium to be entered into the jury process. A visiting juror selected by the Joseloff Gallery then chooses the top 60-80 pieces to be shown in the exhibition. From that narrowed pool, the juror then selects to the two pieces that he finds to be the finest works in the exhibition and awards them the $1,000 Purchase Prizes.
Our juror for this year is Jack Tom, local designer, college professor, and owner of Jack Tom Design. You can find out more about Mr. Tom by visiting his website at www.jacktom.com.
The Goldfarb Exhibition will open on Wednesday February 13th with a reception and awards presentation from 4:30 to 6:30pm in the Joseloff Gallery. At approximately 5pm, the two Purchase Prize awards will be given. Please join us!

Up Next: The Student Show!
January 8, 2007You have one more week to see the Hartford Art School Alumni Small Works show, then we take it all down, pack it up, paint the gallery and get ready for our next show - The Alexander A. Goldfarb 19th Annual Student Exhibition and Awards Presentation.
Established in the 1980’s by Alexander A. Goldfarb, the juried annual Goldfarb show is open to all students of the University of Hartford, regardless of school or major. Students are encouraged to enter up to two pieces of art in any medium for the jury selection. Approximately 75 pieces are then chosen by a guest juror, and two of those selections are then chosen to receive the Purchase Awards in the amount of $1,000. The student receives money to assist in their art career, and the Hartford Art School receives the students artwork which becomes a part of the school’s permanent collection.
This year’s Goldfarb drop-off dates are Friday and Saturday February 2nd and 3rd from 11am to 4pm. Students may bring their work to the gallery where they can fill out the appropriate entry forms and officially enter their work into the jurying.
Jurying will take place on Monday February 5th, a list of accepted entries will be posted at the Art School on Wednesday February 7th, and students will be asked to pick up all unaccepted entries on Thursday February 8th. The show will open with a Valentine’s Day Celebration an Opening Reception on Wednesday February 14th from 4:30-6:30pm. Purchase awards will be announced at the opening reception around 5pm.
The annual student show is always an exciting display showcasing the best work of our students from all over campus. Don’t forget to mark your calendar and watch your mailboxes for your opening announcement in a couple of weeks.
