Its been too long since we’ve updated the Joseloff Gallery blog. We would like to apologize by offering you bunches of updates coming up in the next couple of days. Stay tuned!

Have you been to visit the Hartford Art School Faculty Exhibition yet? If not, you had better hurry, the show closes this weekend. Five more days to see the best of what our phenomenal faculty has to offer. Stop by today and see some amazing artwork. We’re open through Friday from 11-4 and Saturday and Sunday from noon-4.
The gallery will be closed for the next three weeks while we take down the Faculty show, prepare to host National Portfolio Day on November 4th, and then collect artwork for the Alumni Show.
Check your mailboxes for the Alumni Small Works Show opening reception announcement. They will be mailed this week, the reception will be on Friday November 17th from 6-8pm.

In addition to having artwork on our walls, we also have a bit of artwork in our guest book. Some people prefer to leave us their names, some like to give their opinions on the show, and some people are just inspired to draw.
Next time you visit the gallery, be sure to sign, (or draw in), our guest book and look through the pages for some of the mini masterpieces like these.

Have you been wondering what shows are coming up next at the gallery? Well here you are, our remaining shows for the 2006-2007 school year. Please remember that the dates are subject to change and you may want to call the gallery or visit our website to confirm dates and times before heading out.

If you are an alumni of the art school, or you know an alumni, we encourage you to spread the word about the show. This is not a juried show, but there is a $25 entry fee. One work per alumni may be entered in any medium that does not need to be projected, or shown on a screen. Artwork may be shipped to the gallery or dropped off in person between November 6 and November 10 from 11am-7pm.
The exhibition will run from Friday, November 17, 2006 through Sunday, January 14, 2007, with an opening reception on November 17 from 6-8pm.

What a day! Last week the gallery took a group of enthusiastic art-lovers on a trip to New York as part of the lecture/trip series titled 2+2: The Talk of New York. The weather was perfect, the shows were phenomenal and the group was great!
We visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the show, Cezanne to Picasso: Ambroise Vollard, Patron of the Avant Garde. What a stunning collection of important works of art, and an interesting lesson on how art dealers influence the market for art and truly make an artist’s career. Vollard was a force in the art world and his incredible influence can be seen in this exhibition.
We also visited the Whitney Museum of American Art for the opening day of their show, Picasso and American Art. A visual overload of mostly large-scale works by Picasso and some of the American artists whose work he influenced. The comparions to Picasso’s work are at times obvious, and other times subtle and quite interesting.
Did you miss out on our first lecture and trip? Don’t worry - there’s another one coming soon! Wednesday, November 1st we will host our second lecture in the gallery focusing on contemporary art. The following week on Thursday, November 9th we will have our second bus trip to New York to visit the Modern Museum of Art. There are still open seats for both the lecture and the trip.
The gallery lectures are free, the bus trips are $100 each, which includes transportation and museum admission. For more information, visit our website, or send us an email with your questions.
